How To Keep Track Of What You’ve Learnt... by Oscar

. Monday, November 16, 2009

Most people forget what they’ve just learnt within 12 and 24 hours. If you are reading this post now, chances are that tomorrow you’ll not even remember it.
Our brain works like a big search engine, when you insert a new piece of information, it goes on a big stack called short term memory. When you want to remember that information, your brain will try to search inside that stack for the information you requested.
This process happens asynchrony, that’s why you often remember a title of a song after many hours from your first attempt.
If you are trying to recall something after a long time (it can be even 1 hour for useless information), your brain will have an hard time finding it, as it’s more likely you have forget it.
Knowing this, we can try to understand why we forget what we’ve learnt just a few hours ago. When a new piece of information enters your brain, it is stored as a volatile information, because your brain doesn’t know if it’s useful or not. For example you don’t need to remember every car you’ve seen in your daily commute to work.
But what happens when you try to recall something you’ve previously learnt? Most times you simply can’t. If I would tell you now that to find the sum of the number from 1 to n you have to calculate (n+1)*n/2, chances are that within one hour it’ll be already hard for you to recall the correct formula, although it’s pretty easy. This happens because (if you are not good at math) your brain does not find similar information already stored in your brain, so it’s hard for it to reinforce that information alone. And by now you’ve probably forget it :D
As you’ve just read, the major difficult for your brain is to reinforce and create consistency, and the best way to help your brain doing it is by recalling what you’ve just learnt multiple times.

What does this mean in practice?

Knowing this, you can probably understand why your life doesn’t change even after reading the best how to book you’ve ever read. Even if I was telling you the perfect formula for solving all your problems, and that formula would make perfect sense to you, you would forget it after a few hours, and your life would remain the same.
Unless, of course, you deliberately reinforce your new knowledge and make it part of your life (also known as taking action).

How do you keep track of new stuff?

Depending on the nature of the information you’ve just acquired, there are many ways to keep track of what you’ve learnt. If you want to master a new technique on your sport, the best way is to repeat it as many times as possible until it becomes second nature for you. If you are following an history class at school, it may be a good idea to create a mind map with the fundamental concepts and dates, and repeat it every day.

Enter the learning log

Given that I spend most of my learning time in front of a monitor, or reading a book, what I needed was something where I can store information very quickly. I used to have a personal wiki, but it didn’t quite work for me. Instead I am now using a learning log, which is something extremely simple that can be done both in your computer and also in a simple notebook.
The idea is to create a new entry every time you learn something new (assuming you want to remember it). If you are doing this on paper, you can just write the date on the top of your sheet and then make an incremental bullet list. If you are doing this in your computer, you can do the same thing, but you also need to keep track of your files in an efficient way where it’s easy for you to switch from one day to another.
With this simple method, it will be extremely easy to keep track of the new concepts you want to grasp. And if your system is not available at any time, you can make a note elsewhere, and merge it with your original file at the end of the day.

How often should you recall?

How often you need to recall depends on the mole of information you’ve stored and how important it is for you. As a general rule you should recall at the end of the day, after 24 hours, after 1 week, after 1 month, after 6 months, and after one year. This should be simple to do if your system is in order, as on a typical day you only have to recall 6 files. I tend to do a quick review at the end of the week for old files, but that’s a personal choice and you have to try what works for yourself.
If there’s something that I absolutely want to master and remember well, I copy it on new days until necessary.

Will your brain ever become full?

If you are worried that your brain will become full one day with a method like this, you have to know that it’s basically impossible to happen. So don’t worry and enjoy learning new stuff.

What to do now

If what you’ve just read makes sense to you, the best thing you can do now is creating your learning log. It doesn’t need to be perfect, as long as you get started you can always improve it.

Lonavala & Khnadala
There are many tourist attractions in Lonavala and Khandala to arouse as well as withhold the interest of the tourists. In the following lines, we have mentioned some of the most famous places of interest are:

Lonavala Lake
Situated on the outskirts of Lonavala, this lake is the perfect place to relax after a hard day at work. The tranquil surroundings and serene atmosphere offered by the Lonavla Lake are enough to lure tourists here. The lake is also visited by a number of birds, making it a bird watcher’s delight.

Tungarli Lake
Tungarli Lake makes a very popular picnic spot for the residents of Lonavala, Khandala and the neighboring cities. Children especially love to come to the lake and play around, oblivious to the tensions surrounding their world. Apart from being a splendid creation of nature, this lake is also a very important source of water for the people of the hill station.

Rajmachi Point
As you move towards the outskirts of Lonavala, one of the few places that will occupy your interest is the Rajmachi Point. It falls on the way from Mumbai to Lonavla, just before the starting point of the Ghat. Situated in the valley below the spot is the Rajmachi Fort and one can have magnificent views of this fort from Rajmachi Point. Further adding to the attraction of Rajmachi Point is Vaghjai Dari, located nearby.

Valvan Dam
Hardly 2 km away from the heart of Lonavala, one finds the spectacular Valvan Dam. Located at the foot of the dam is a blooming garden, adorned with a wide variety of colorful flowers and other plants. The Khopoli power station sources a major portion of its water from this dam.

Ryewood Park and Shivaji Udyan
Adding to the lush green surroundings of Lonavala are Ryewood Park and Shivaji Udyan. The stunning gardens are amongst the favorite picnic spots of the children, owing to the soaring trees and spacious open spaces provided by them. The swings set up at the parks further add to their appeal. An ancient Shiva Temple, situated inside one of the parks, is visited by a large number of people every day.

Lohagad Darshan
In this small garden located in Bhangarwadi, there are plenty of toys for children to play there is also a big statue of Savarkar here.

Kune Falls
This water falls where water comes down from a height of more than 100 feet is majestic in appearance one can have bath in the water that flows through the valley. This place is between Lonavala and Khandala. This fall can be seen in Khandala Ghat while coming from Mumbai. It runs for many days long after the monsoon is over.

Tiger's Leap
It is one of the most fascinating places in this area. If someone carefully observes the valley from this point, it will appear as if a tiger is leaping into the valley. Thus, the place has been named as Tiger's leap. Special arrangements have been made for the tourists to view the panoramic site of the valley, i.e. via the safe confines of a big hole from this point. Moreover, for an enthralling experience, throw a stone from this point and see it topple down the valley and get destroyed.

Amrutanjan Point
Amrutanjan point is yet another point located high up in Khandala. It provides excellent view of the places nearby. As there is a lot of flat space available here, the point is a well suited location for an enormous sight of the valley as well as the Duke's Nose. Besides, you can also see the city of Khopoli from here. It is situated at the end of the first slope, as you enter Khandala.

Duke's Nose
Duke's Nose is a cliff here, which has been named after the Duke Wellington, as he had a pointed nose, which the cliff resembles. However, it is also known as "Nagfani" (Hood of Snake), as it also looks like the hood of a snake. Duke's Nose can be easily reached from INS Shivaji and Kurwande Village. Apart from its scenic beauty, it also attracts visitors with its mountain climbing trails.

Reversing Station
Reversing Station once belonged to the Railways, but now remains deserted and unused. It lies outside tunnel no. 26, on the rail route. The nearby regions and the city of Khopoli are visible from here. It presents an eye catchy site at night, when it is illuminated with hundreds of lights that bring it to life.

Karla and Bhaja Cave
Karla and Bhaja Caves are historical rock cut caves, situated at a distance of 16 km from Khandala. They are one of the main attractions here, due to their enormous antiquity and beauty. Located amidst hills, their origin dates back to the 2nd century. These caves belong to the Hinayana sect of Buddhism and are one of the finest examples of rock cut caves in India.

Bhushi Lake
Bhushi Lake situated in Khandala is the ideal spot for all those who wish to relax in the lap of Mother Nature. Its serene and tranquil surroundings and crystal clear water provides immense opportunities for the tourists to rest in peace.

Matheran

Life is like an onion: You peel it off one layer at a time, and sometimes you weep

Now a days I have little spare time ... as blogging is my favorite past time but i could not write any thing... because every time i write something i do not publish it... you might be thinking why...reason is because of my sister......
Recently I have lost my elder sister... and the last article that i have written was dedicated to her ... So jaise hi mei koi blog likh ke publish karne ki sochta hoon..... suddenly I feel ke meri sister ka blog will be replaced by this new one... and this is what i am not liking.....
I was basically not happy about the life and the pain it gives.. .. so I started seaching the net and i found few good quotations about life which really helped me to some extent.... which I also want to share with you....
-------------------------------------------------
You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her only that she is gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
-------------------------------------------------
For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.
-------------------------------------------------
For certain is death for the born
And certain is birth for the dead;
Therefore over the inevitable
Thou shouldst not grieve.
-------------------------------------------------
If death meant just leaving the stage long enough to
change costume and come back as a new character...Would
you slow down? Or speed up?
-------------------------------------------------
Death is not the greatest loss in life.
The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.
-------------------------------------------------
Love is stronger than death
even though it can't stop death from happening,
but no matter how hard death tries
it can't separate people from love.
It can't take away our memories either.
In the end, life is stronger than death.
-------------------------------------------------
Life lives, life dies.
Life laughs, life cries.
Life gives up and life tries.
But life looks different
through everyone's eyes.
-------------------------------------------------
God pours life into death
and death into life
without a drop being spilled.
-------------------------------------------------
People do not die for us immediately,
but remain bathed in a sort of aura of life
which bears no relation to true immortality
but through which they continue to occupy our thoughts
in the same way as when they were alive.
It is as though they were traveling abroad.
-------------------------------------------------
If the people we love are stolen from us,
the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them.
Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever.
-------------------------------------------------

One of best IT interview ..... :-)

. Thursday, May 28, 2009
0 comments

Interviewer: Tell me about yourself.
Candidate: I am Rameshwar Kulkarni. I did my Tele Communication
engineering from BabanRao Dhole-Patil Institute of Technology.

Interviewer: BabanRao Dhole-Patil Institute of Technology? I had
never heard of this college before!
Candidate: Great! Even I had not heard of it before getting an
admission into it ..
What happened is - due to cricket world cup I scored badly! in
12th.I was getting a paid seat in a good college.
But my father said (I prefer to call him 'baap') - "I can not
invest so much of money".(The baap actually said - "I
will never waste so much of money on you"). So I had to join this
college. Frankly speaking this name - BabanRao Dhole-Patil, can at the most be
related to a Shetakari Mahavidyalaya.

Interviewer: ok, ok. It seems you have taken 6 years to complete
your engineering.
Candidate: Actually I tried my best to finish it in 4 years. But
you know, these cricket matches and football
world cup, and tennis tournaments. It is difficult to concentrate.
So I flunked in 2nd and 3rd year. So in all I took
4 + 2 = 7 years.

Interviewer: But 4+2 is 6.
Candidate: Oh, is it? You know I always had KT in maths. But I
will try to keep this in mind. 4+2 is 6, good,
thanks. These cricket matches really affect exams a lot. I think
they should ban it.

Interviewer: Good to know that you want cricket matches to be
banned.
Candidate: No, no... I am talking about Exams!!

Interviewer: Ok, What is your biggest achievement in life?
Candidate: Obviously, completing my Engineering. My mom never
thought I would complete it. In fact, when i
flunked in 3rd year, she was looking for a job for me in BEST (Bus
corporation in Maharashtra) through some relative.

Interviewer: Do you have any plans of higher study?
Candidate: he he he.. Are you kidding? Completing 'lower'
education itself was so much of pain!!

Interviewer: Let's talk about technical stuff. On which platforms
have you worked?
Candidate: Well, I work at SEEPZ, so you can say Andheri is my
current platform. Earlier I was at Vashi center. So Vashi was my platform then. As you can see I have
experience of different platforms! (Vashi and Andheri are the places in Mumbai)

Interviewer: And which languages have you used?
Candidate: Marathi, Hindi, English. By the way, I can keep quiet
in German, French, Russian and many other languages.

Interviewer: Why VC is better than VB?
Candidate: It is a common sense - C comes after B. So VC is a
higher version than VB. I heard very soon they
are coming up with a new language VD!

Interviewer: Do you know anything about Assembly Language?
Candidate: Well, I have not heard of it. But I guess, this is the
language our ministers and MPs use in assembly.

Interviewer: What is your general project experience?
Candidate: My general experience about projects is - most of th! e
times they are in pipeline!

Interviewer: Can you tell me about your current job?
Candidate: Sure, Currently I am working for Bata InfoTech ltd.
Since joining BIL, I am on Bench. Before joining
BIL, I used to think that Bench was another software like Windows.

Interviewer: Do you have any project management experience?
Candidate: No, but I guess it shouldn't be difficult. I know
Word and Excel. I can talk a lot. I know how to
dial for International phone call and use speaker facility. And
very important - I know few words like -
'Showstoppers ' , 'hotfixes',
'SEI-CMM','quality','versioncontrol','deadlines' , 'Customer
Satisfaction' etc. Also I can blame others for my mistakes!

Interviewer: What are your expectations from our company?
Candidate: Not much.
1. I should at least get 40,000 in hand.
2. I would like to work on a live EJB project. But it should not
have deadlines. I personally feel that pressure affects natural talent.
3. I believe in flexi-timings.
4. Dress code is against basic freedom, so I would like to wear
t-shirt and jeans.
5. We must have sat-sun off. I will suggest Wednesday off also, so
as to avoid breakdown due to overwork.
6. I would like to go abroad 3 times a year on short term
preferably 1-2 months) assignments. Personally I prefer
US, Australia and Europe. But considering the fact that there is Olympics coming up in
China in the current year, I don't mind
going there in that period. As you can see I am modest and don't
have many expectations. So can I assume my selection?

Interviewer: he he he ha ha ha. Thanks for your interest in our
organization. In fact I was never entertained so much before. Welcome to INFOSYS.
The fellow was appointed in a newly created section 'Stress Management' in the HRD of Infosys.

So Just be urself......u never knw wats ahead of u.......
Be Honest and Original...............true to urself!!!!

8 Toxic personalities to avoid : by Brett Blumenthal - Sheer Balance

. Tuesday, May 26, 2009
0 comments

Although we like to think that the people in our lives are well-adjusted, happy, healthy minded individuals, we sometimes realize that it just isn't so. Personally, I've had moments where I'll be skipping through my day, happy as can be, thinking life is grand and BAM, I'll be blindsided by someone who manages to knock the happy wind out of my sails. Sometimes it is easy to write it off and other times, not so much.

Maybe you are a positive person, but when you are around a certain individual, you feel negative. Or, maybe you have an idealistic view of the world and when you are with certain people, you are made to feel silly, unrealistic or delusional. Or, maybe you pride yourself in being completely independent and in control of your life, but when you are around a certain family member, you regress into a state of childhood.

Some of these situations, and yes, these people, can have a tremendously negative impact on our lives. And, although we are all human and have our 'issues,' some 'issues' are quite frankly, toxic. They are toxic to our happiness. They are toxic to our mental outlook. They are toxic to our self-esteem. And they are toxic to our lives. They can suck the life out of us and even shorten our lifespan.

Here are the worst of the toxic personalities out there and how to spot them:

1. Manipulative Mary: These individuals are experts at manipulation tactics. Is a matter of fact, you may not even realize you have been manipulated until it is too late. These individuals figure out what your 'buttons' are, and push them to get what they want.

* Why they are toxic: These people have a way of eating away at your belief system and self-esteem. They find ways to make you do things that you don't necessarily want to do and before you know it, you lose your sense of identity, your personal priorities and your ability to see the reality of the situation. The world all of a sudden becomes centered around their needs and their priorities.

2. Narcissistic Nancy: These people have an extreme sense of self-importance and believe that the world revolves around them. They are often not as sly as the Manipulative Marys of the world, but instead, tend to be a bit overt about getting their needs met. You often want to say to them "It isn't always about you."

* Why they are toxic: They are solely focused on their needs, leaving your needs in the dust. You are left disappointed and unfulfilled. Further, they zap your energy by getting you to focus so much on them, that you have nothing left for yourself.

3. Debbie Downers: These people can't appreciate the positive in life. If you tell them that it is a beautiful day, they will tell you about the impending dreary forecast. If you tell them you aced a mid-term, they'll tell you about how difficult the final is going to be.

* Why they are toxic: They take the joy out of everything. Your rosy outlook on life continues to get squashed with negativity. Before you know it, their negativity consumes you and you start looking at things with gray colored glasses yourself.

4. Judgmental Jims: When you see things as cute and quirky, they see things as strange and unattractive. If you find people's unique perspectives refreshing, they find them 'wrong'. If you like someone's eclectic taste, they find it 'disturbing' or 'bad'.

* Why they are toxic: Judgmental people are much like Debbie Downers. In a world where freedom rings, judgment is sooo over. If the world was a homogeneous place, life would be pretty boring. Spending a lot of time with these types can inadvertently convert you into a judgmental person as well.

5. Dream Killing Keiths: Every time you have an idea, these people tell you why you can't do it. As you achieve, they try to pull you down. As you dream, they are the first to tell you it is impossible.

* Why they are toxic: These people are stuck in what is instead of what could be. Further, these individuals eat away at your self-esteem and your belief in yourself. Progress and change can only occur from doing new things and innovating, dreaming the impossible and reaching for the stars.

6. Insincere Illissas: You never quite feel that these people are being sincere. You tell a funny story, they give you a polite laugh. You feel depressed and sad and they give you a 'there, there' type response. You tell them you are excited about something and you get a very ho-hum response.

* Why they are toxic: People who aren't sincere or genuine build relationships on superficial criteria. This breeds shallow, meaningless relationships. When you are really in need of a friend, they won't be there. When you really need constructive criticism, they would rather tell you that you are great the way you are. When you need support, they would rather see you fail or make a fool of yourself.

7. Disrespectful Dannys: These people will say or do things at the most inappropriate times and in the most inappropriate ways. In essence, they are more subtle, grown up bullies. Maybe this person is a friend who you confided in and uses your secret against you. Maybe it is a family member who puts their busy-body nose into your affairs when it is none of their business. Or maybe, it is a colleague who says demeaning things to you.

* Why they are toxic: These people have no sense of boundaries and don't respect your feelings or, for that matter, your privacy. These people will cause you to feel frustrated and disrespected.

8. Never Enough Nellies: You can never give enough to these people to make them happy. They take you for granted and have unrealistic expectations of you. They find ways to continually fault you and never take responsibility for anything themselves.

* Why they are toxic: You will spend so much time trying to please them, that you will end up losing yourself in the process. They will require all of your time and energy, leaving you worn out and your own needs sacrificed.

All of these personalities have several things in common. 1) the more these people get away with their behavior, the more they will continue. 2) Unfortunately, most of these people don't see that what they do is wrong and as a result, talking to them about it will fall on deaf ears, leaving you wondering if you are the crazy one. 3) Most of these people get worse with age, making their impact on you stronger with time.

Frankly, life is too short to spend your time dealing with toxicity. If you can, avoid spending mucho time with people who are indicative of these behaviors and you'll feel a lot happier. Have you encountered these personalities? What have you done? Any personalities you would add?

Pull par chalte aadmi ne neeche
Rassi fenki aur kaha aaoo….

Nadi mein dobta hua aadmi
Rassi nahi pakad pa raha tha
Rah rah kar chillaa raha tha
Mein marna nahi chahta
Zindagi badi mehengi hai

Itna sunte hi pul par chalte

Abhi abhi ek aadmi doobkar mar gaya hai
Aur is tarah aapki company mein
Ek jagah khali kar gaya hai…

Mein berozgaar hoon muje le lo..

Jo usse dhakka de kar tumse pehle yahan aaya hai !!
